About

Los Angeles, California, United States / August 7, 2025

Most people try to do push-ups fast. Rich Hernandez went the other way. The Los Angeles fitness fanatic took a full 4 minutes to complete a single push-up, lowering and raising himself with agonizing control, smashing Tai Star's original 2013 mark of 1:42. For context, Hernandez did 373,730 push-ups in 2025 alone. He just chose to do this one really, really slowly.

Great effort, but the cadence needs to be same going down as up. The hardest part of this pushup is from the bottom half, going up. If your record is 3:20, then you need to get to the bottom at 1:40, and have continuous movement between these points.

Hello there! My attempt indeed wasn't perfect but who cares since it still got accepted. Feel free to record your attempt, good luck with your grind 💪😉

Thanks for the response — and apologies for the delay, I never got a notification.

First off, respect to anyone willing to put themselves out there and attempt something difficult. Man in the arena. Always.

That said, I do think standards matter. In my view, a true “slow pushup” should have continuous, evenly distributed movement on both the descent and the ascent. If someone spends 99.9% of the time going down and 0.1% coming up, technically the clock runs — but the spirit of the challenge gets blurred.

Either way, I recorded and submitted my attempt 😉

Looking forward to seeing how this evolves.
