Congrats Emmett, Great collection. Nice to see a fellow Terrible Towel enthusiast.

  • The Internet ChrisB

Was just making a list (I really need to take pictures)... My unofficial count is 46 unique, 5 unique but unofficial, and 17 autographed... If I count duplicates, I have close to 100 towels.

  • The Internet joe

anyone want to purchase a one of a kind black TT autographed by Joe Greene personalized to Joe?

  • The Internet Jeffrey Smith

I should have re-counted before I entered instead of going from memory. Plus I just added the new ST. Pats, Halloween, Snowmen, Camo and spanish versions. I officially have 62 unique towels with just the one Myron Cope autographed version.

  • The Internet Jeffrey Smith

I have 52 unique towels with only one autographed towel. The autographed towel is of Myron Cope, whose I got in person in 05.

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Tony, When I set up this record the rules were to have unique in design or autographed, it was left out but never fixed by the URDB staff. I get all autographs in person at player signings in the Pittsburgh area or at training camp in Latrobe each summer. I have never purchased an auto'ed Towel. If I wanted to have fakes that I signed myself I would have a much bigger collection. I take collecting Terrible Towels very serious and would NEVER waste a towel with a fake auto, one reason I wont buy a auto'ed towel. I have too much respect for the towel and what it stands for. Over half of the collection are towels that are not autographed. Thanks Emmett

  • The Internet Tony Bologna

I think who ever runs this website should rename this so called "record". You can buy autographed towels all day long on ebay. Do all of his towels have COA's? How do we know they are authentic? Can someone please have the intelligence to understand what the term "unique in design" means?

  • The Internet Tony Bologna

How can this be a record? I thought one of the rules was each towel must be unique in design? You have so many of the same towels but with autographs. You can get an autograph from anyone on an average towel and count it in your record? I dont understand. How are they unique in design? English is my only language so where is the uniqueness in the designs?

  • United States Emmett Newsome

brian yeah I yas lucky enough to add a 70' yellow, gold, and black this year!

  • United States Alex Cunningham

Awesome to hear your collection is expanding, Emmitt! You should show us your new collection!

  • United States Brian O'Connor

Nice Emmett! I just added the Three Rivers Stadium, Spanish version, holloween version, camo version, Christmas version, and the old school yellow version, like the black one that you have next to the white one in the middle of the pic. I have that old school black one as well. Emmt do you have the first gen. 1970 towels yet?? Those are going from $150 to $450 on eBay.

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Tee Towel I don't have pics yet. I'll have to get some pics up and a link. I think their should be a different category for this record.

  • The Internet Tee Towel

I have 33 DIFFERENT variations of the Terrible Towel! How does that stand against this record? Maybe there should be a different category to this record? Brian O., do you have a list or pics of the different 30 variations that you have? I would like to compare. Mine can be seen on facebook... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.257746917603796.66588.255596441152177

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Hi Tee, the Toddler towel has the "THE" on it and the black towel the did make the first ones in the late '90 that have the current design with the 2 bars above and below the "The terrible towle" that did have "THE" on them i just picked up a yellow one on eBay for $1.50.

  • The Internet Tee Towel

I also have a Terrible Toddler Towel that has "THE" on it also... Rare?

  • The Internet Tee Towel

I have a black Terrible Towel with "THE" on it. Is that considered to be a rare version?

  • United States Emmett Newsome

    Thanks Brian.

  • United States Brian O'Connor

Wow! What an impressive collection! I have been tryin to catch up to you. I'm currently up to 30 terrible towels. I don't think that's going to happen.....I only have towels that differ in design and no autos. I'm trying to get my hands on the three rivers stadium, autos, and "THE" one.

  • United States Emmett Newsome

I have 24 different in design. Brian thanks for the heads up on the "THE" towel i picked one up on ebay yesterday. I didnt know about that one!

  • United States Emmett Newsome

when i set the record up it was for the LARGEST TERRIBLE TOWEL COLLECTION... i did a count of different towels i have right now

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

Rob. There should be 2 different records for this category then. largest collection of terrible towels. the other category can either be most Steelers auto's or most signed terrible towels. Thanks

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

That last one was for Emmett and Rob. Thanks

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

Rob I have mini helmets with autos on them because the writing is more legible. My collection with all orgianal designs is at 24. There is about 5 designs you dont Have. Maybe you should have the record for most autographs by the Pittsburgh steelers or Autographed terrible towels? But does this site use criteria like guinness that if it is an auto you it must have a COA?

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Rob, when i set the record criteria last year when making the record i did out in each towel must unique in design or autographed. URBD never put that on the post?

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Rob, I have sent out and recived about 10-12 more towels since the last update. I posted it with 27 org. and updateded it to 31 a few weeks later. at last count i was at 41. but have added a few more since the last count. Just got the newest one today for the upcomming super bowl!

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Brian, I do understand what you are saying but the collection also includes autographed towels which are harder to get from players. I could have a baseball collection too but all the balls would be the same if they were not autographed. I spen about $15-$20 on each auto'ed towel, to mail out and return postage. some auto's worth hundreds of $$. I do search long and hard for special logo and limited towels and vintage hard to find towels. but i do have every towel they have made in the last 5-10 years. Are you a towel collector? and you have none that have autographs on them?

  • United States Rob Birdsong

Emmett, I like you a lot and am a big fan of this record. But I think Brian makes a strong case. How current is this world record? Have you had any collection updates since the original submission?

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

The Intent for most collectors is to have all towels that differ in design. people search long and hard for towels with a special logo on them or a towel that had a limited release.

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

for a towel to count as a different one it should differ in how it was manufactured. the design on the towel must be made differently. IF the design is the same just manufactured at a different time that also does not count. Towels with different logos or writing on them count as different. A rare Example I have is on the terrible towel the word "THE" is capitalized. that towel was only given own for a pa lottery promotion. all other towels have the "the" in undercase. so you on have 18 different towels in your collection. The towel made of woven fabric does count.

  • United States Rob Birdsong

Emmett N. has asked that we amend the criteria per is original intention. He believes an autographed towel makes it unique. Brian D. believes variation in manufacturing makes it unique. What does everybody else think?

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Brian, most of my towels are autographed. making them different, that was part of the record criteria that i had but wasn't added by URBD. thanks emmett

  • The Internet Brian Dupler

Hey Emmett. I see on your bottom tow and floor you have 12 towels that have exactly the same writing on them. There is no variation of design. It is the same Design just manufactured at a different time. The one on the right wall by itself is also the same. So you only have 20 terrible towels. And 31 in your collection

  • Canada Dan Rollman

Emmett, will you send us another photo (or photos) that clearly displays the exact count of 27? I have a hunch this category will see competition, and I'd like potential competitors to have foolproof evidence of your claim. Email media to hello AT URDB.org

  • United States Emmett Newsome

Marc- There are 3 hanging on the hook, and the 27th is in the frame. The banner doesn't count.

  • United States Marc

The top row has 5. The second row has 5. The third row has 5. The fourth and bottom row has 8. The side wall has 3. Where is the 27th?

  • United States Marc

    I only count 26.
