Yanhao Deng of Chenzhou, Hunan, made 1.428 moles of solid sodium chloride, about 83 grams of table salt, in three minutes in NoBook Lab, a virtual chemistry lab app, starting from an empty workbench. On a tablet, Yanhao sets out a 1,000 mL beaker, tweezers, sodium metal and concentrated hydrochloric acid, reacts the sodium in the acid and tips the white salt into a test tube in two batches; the tube's readout lists sodium chloride with small amounts of five other substances and no liquid. RecordSetter matched a phone video of the tablet and a smartwatch stopwatch with the tablet's own screen recording: the tube reaches 1.428 moles at 2:56 on the stopwatch and still reads 1.428 as the stopwatch passes 3:00. Table salt, the hard way.

Rules

Use the official NoBook Lab (NB Lab) virtual chemistry app
Start the stopwatch on an empty workbench; apparatus and reagents may only be added after it starts, and saved setups or ready-made templates may not be used
Sodium chloride may be made by any reaction in the app, but the sodium chloride reagent bottle or any other ready-made sodium chloride may not be used directly
Collect the sodium chloride in one container, with the Amount of Substance display switched on so the container's contents show on screen
The container may hold no liquids or semi-liquids, since sodium chloride would dissolve, and no more than five substances other than sodium chloride; any gases and other solids are allowed within that limit
The result is the amount of sodium chloride, in moles, on the container's display when the stopwatch reaches 3:00, and the display must still show that amount afterward
Must be one continuous, unedited video showing the device screen and a running stopwatch from the empty workbench past the three-minute mark
Must provide video evidence
