About

Valencia, Venezuela / October 31, 2026

Carlos Jaen sprinted across a turf field in Valencia, Venezuela, took off behind a marker 3.30 meters (about 10 feet 10 inches) from a target stand and closed the gap with a jumping side kick, bursting the balloon rigged to the stand. The distance was measured on camera just before the kick, with a tape measure run from the foot of the stand to the takeoff line, and the attempt was filmed from three angles while martial artists in uniform looked on. The balloon had more than three meters of warning and it didn't help.

Rules

- One person performs a jumping side kick after a running approach: the leg extends sideways and the target is struck with the outside edge or heel of the foot.
- Takeoff is from behind a line marked on the ground, and the takeoff foot may not touch or cross the line. Any length of run-up is allowed, with no assistance, springboards, ramps, trampolines or raised platforms.
- The target sits at least 1 meter above the ground on a free-standing stand rigged to burst a balloon when struck, and the balloon must burst from the kick.
- The distance is measured along the ground with a tape measure from the edge of the takeoff line nearest the target to the foot of the target stand, and the measurement is shown on camera at the same session as the kick.
- The video must show the takeoff foot at the line, the kick and the balloon bursting in one unbroken shot. Results are recorded to the nearest centimeter.
