Actually, I used Tweetie, a Twitter application on my iPhone. Not SMS. The record is "Most Tweets Sent To MCHammer Using Cell Phone." There are a number of other programs out there on a number of devices to use Twitter with a mobile phone that aren't text. The reason to differentiate is, it's very easy to type tweets on a laptop keyboard versus two thumbs on a mobile device. It's like racing down the street in a car or a skateboard.

  • Though it's true that Caitlyn does not beat a record of 6 tweets in one minute, I disagree with point number two. Tweets, as defined by Twitter and Wikipedia, are 140 character text messages. You can send Tweets through the Twitter website, through a third-person website, or through an instant messenger client. If we look at a comprehensive list of tweet services and applications, we notice that SMS is not listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ListofTwitterservicesand_applications Though Twitter did have SMS service for free, that has been discontinued since the middle of 2008. Therefore, if you're sending tweets, the people who receive them must be reading them through an Internet browser. As a result, it makes no sense to suggest that Tweets should be sent via a cell-phone to qualify for the record "Most Tweets Sent to MC Hammer in One Minute". Twitter describes itself as a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one another. As you cannot receive answers through SMS, it's evident that a Tweet sent by a cellphone is an SMS message, not a Tweet in spirit. The real question is then whether sending 6 SMS messages that then get converted into Tweets by Twitter should count as Tweets. I think that Caitlyn may be the real winner and the original record holder should be either denied the record or the title of their record should be changed.

  • HECK NO. anyways, she shoulda had 10 extra seconds tacked on for assuming MC HAMMER would have known it was warm. oh and Brian Ries did it WITHOUT an accent. take 10 seconds OFF his time.

  • Denied. Typing on a computer is much faster than typing on an iphone, not to mention internet connection....

This record was submitted to beat Brian Ries' feat for Most Tweets Sent To MC Hammer In One Minute Using Cell Phone. We have, at least temporarily, marked this record as "Denied." This was done for two reasons: 1. Caitlin only completes six tweets within one minute, not seven. Six only ties the existing record, and we've always felt ties should belong to the existing record holder. Beat it or go home. 2. It is clear Caitlin uses a laptop, not a cell phone. We considered modifying her record title to Most Tweets Sent To MC Hammer In One Minute Using A Computer, but that felt unethical to us. Her intent was to beat Brian's record, and in our estimation she failed. Our vision is to implement tools that will allow you (the community) a chance to vote on these types of issues yourselves. We're working on it. In the meantime, we have our Comment section for such disputes. Please join the discussion. Does Caitlin deserve this record?
