, United States / August 2, 2011

Stride’s setting 100 records in 100 days. At the end of 100 days, we’ll verify if you are the standing Record Holder. If you are, you’ll get $500 for each record you managed to hold with your guile, talent, and sheer will.

General caution and common sense required. We show the Stride Team at work, but recommend that these challenges be done at home.

- both participants must remain seated in chairs behind opposite sides of table for duration of attempt
- must use regulation paddles and ball
- ball may not hit any surface other than table and paddles
- ball may not hit either side table more than once in a row
- ball must bounce on table before players hit it
- chairs must remain stationary for duration of attempt
- must follow form of current world record holder
- must provide video evidence

indeed great record. Check out titanium tv for android for free to watch latest movies and tv shows

Mick Excellent note. The bases of these chairs aren't clearly below table level. We apologize for this inconsistency and have denied the attempt.

  • The Internet Matt Rishel

While i guess I agree with the consistancy, I do not see why this was denied considering the rules were not updated. I do not see why we would have to go through the entire comments section to see rules consistency, if it was not updated in the rules, i don't think should be denied.

Matt a stool technically is not even considered a chair

  • United States Neil Moallem

Wow Mick excellent observation! I just found the comment: "meaning that traditional stools are not allowed" Based on that criteria, shouldn't this be denied?

I'm a bit confused why this record was accepted. Dan said in the comments below that stools would not be permitted for this category.

  • The Internet Zach Neal

Oh wow guys, 22 minutes??? Very nice!

  • Canada Dan Rollman

Zach We aren't denying attempts with music. We've just warned people that if issues arise, we may need to remove audio.

  • The Internet Zach Neal

I thought there wasn't allowed to be any music?

  • Canada Dan Rollman

    1. We have added "ball must bounce on table before players hit it" to criteria.

    2. We are going to re-time Max's submission starting right after the "air ball" and reduce the time to match. If we denied attempt, there would be no reason why Max and his friend wouldn't just edit their video and resubmit.

Thanks to all for your input, Dan

Our moderation team will look at it tomorrow and reach a decision. Thanks to all for your input.

so you can restart the time from the obstruction to the end of the rally.

  • United States Mick Cullen

Colby's correct. The ball that was hit in the air is a violation of table tennis rules. Table tennis rules do not allow for volleys. This one is particularly egregious since it looks like it would have missed the table altogether. This record attempt should be denied.

Are we allowed to talk and/or listen to/sing music while playing the ping pong in the video????

  • Canada Dan Rollman

    1. Swiveling is permissible, but moving base of chair is not. 2. Base of chair must be below table top, meaning that traditional stools are not allowed.
  • United States Mick Cullen

Agreed, Peter. Please advise, RecordSetter. I'd really like to give this one a shot, but I want to make sure I'm within the rules.

  • Australia Peter Craig

also their office chairs are already stretching the "stationary" criteria as they are swiveling on them so by demonstration at least this would be acceptable to reproduce.

  • Australia Peter Craig

It does look like a penhold grip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabletennisstyles and a list of others: http://tabletennis.about.com/od/griptypes/a/griptypes.htm although I think the comment was relating to the grip style changing throughout the attempt. Also a good question for clarification on the seats - the only criteria mentioned is "chair must remain stationary". And so is "bar stool" considered a "chair". It looks as though they are on office chairs (with swivel which would have helped!). I guess it comes to size? Maybe no taller than exposing your lower torso above the table top.

  • United States Mick Cullen

So folks, are any kind of chairs acceptable? It's hard to see what kind of chairs they're sitting in, but would bar stools be accepted, for example?

  • United States Mick Cullen

That is actually not an unheard-of grip, especially in Asia. I've played experienced, competitive players who use it...I think it's called a penhold grip.

  • United States Gold Member

that Stride guy on the left has no idea how to hold a table tennis paddle!
