Cycling World Records

Jack Nunn, a former US national team rower who won silver in the eight at the 2001 Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria, finished three of triathlon's most punishing races in a little over two years. He completed the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon in Norway in 15:02:45 in August 2017, the three-day, 320-mile Ultraman Florida in 33:24:36 in February 2019, and the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii in 15:05:51 in October 2019. RecordSetter checked each finish against the official published race results, for a combined 63 hours, 33 minutes and 12 seconds. Not bad for a 6-foot-3, 220-pound athlete built for a rowing shell rather than a mountain climb.

Jose Manuel Martin Molina rides his red BMX across a palm-lined plaza in Ayamonte, Spain, and five times in 20 seconds he pitches forward over the handlebars, flips upside down and lands on his feet. After every landing he grabs the bike, hops back on and rolls straight into the next one. We counted all five flips in his continuous 20-second clip, filmed from a fixed camera with the plaza's bandstand behind him. Most riders spend years trying not to go over the bars; he does it on purpose, on repeat.

The video is a single 2 minute 11 second take with no cuts, filmed from a low fixed angle in front of a green garage door, and the rear wheel stays in the air until he steps off at the end. RecordSetter tracked the rhythm of the hops across the take, about three per second, which comfortably covers his count. Most riders face the bars for this trick; he does it looking the other way.

The 49 second video is one continuous take from a low fixed camera: he lets go of the grips about a second in, hops from the far end of the garage all the way to the lens at about three hops per second, and turns side-on at the end with the back wheel still in the air before his hand goes back to the bars. RecordSetter counted the no-hands stretch twice, from the bounce on screen and from the sound of each landing, and both counts match his 129. That is 27 more than his earlier 102 on this record.

The low-angle phone video is a single 65 second take with no cuts: he starts by the stairs at the far end and keeps a steady three hops per second all the way to the camera before riding off. RecordSetter tracked every landing frame by frame and counted 199, nine more than his own previous mark of 190. The over-45 bracket has never looked so bouncy.

Andy Gray, Billy Spellman, and Andy Layland used a triplet bicycle to cycle from Holme Fen, the lowest point of the British Isles to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain and point in the British Isles. Spanish BMX rider Jose Manuel Martin Molina turned a niche balance challenge into a 60-jump mark, bouncing through back wheel pogo jumps on a BMX bike for 15 seconds while wearing a lifejacket in Ayamonte. The record combines BMX control with a deliberately odd constraint: the front wheel stays up, the lifejacket stays on, and every counted hop has to land cleanly on the back wheel.

Kadhim Shubber rode 891 miles with a full-sized skeleton on the back seat of his tandem bicycle. He cycled from John O'Groats, Scotland to Land's End, England. He set the record to raise money for scholarship programs at Imperial College London. Read more about the feat here.

Rich Dwyer, Greg Obetz, Mike Richwalder, Brice Biruta, and Andrew Hiller rode tandem style on three Big Wheels for six minutes, 16.10 seconds. Three men steered the tricycles with the other two balanced on the back. tag:RecordSetterBook01

Brian Pankey balanced a bicycle on his forehead and completed 24 catches while juggling three clubs, a RecordSetter.com World Record.

60 riders in the Texas 4000stood in a circle and made individual dedications before lining up and forming a can-can line. They set the record before heading out on a bicycle ride.

Kenny Lewis whistled for 44.95 seconds while riding his bicycle though Death Valley. His tune of choice was Walking In The Air, the theme from the 1982 animated film of Raymond Briggs’ 1978 children’s book The Snowman[]. Lewis took the ride to raise money for WaterAid.
