About

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada / October 25, 2026

Darryl Learie stood against a brick wall in Edmonton, bundled a fistful of thin birthday candles with a rubber band, sealed them inside a clear latex balloon he blew up and tied by hand, then set them alight without opening it. The bundle burned as one glowing flame for about eight seconds before the heat popped the balloon. One continuous take with an on-screen clock covers the setup and the burn, and a close-up of the charred wicks afterward supports his count of 27 burned candles, up from the 20 he managed in 2011. Birthday wishes, but make them airtight.
