State/Province: 0 On behalf of the Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay and in conjunction with City of Champions, Neil Barker was locked in a cage/prison continually for 67 hours. The period commemorated the sixty-seven years which Nelson Mandela devoted his life to the service of humanity — as a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, an international peacemaker and the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa. The only exception was for bathroom breaks. The event was continually filmed and live streamed on YouTube starting at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8XdErnBR2o&index=1&list=PL1VkPmqdeDFJ_RHpnC5Jk2HPrgpfBToV6. Other persons were permitted to share the cell for a period of an hour each during Neil’s incarceration and family, friends and business associated will be encouraged to “bail them out”, the proceeds of which have been donated to a charity which works against cruelty to animals. This event is an opportunity for the public to experience what Nelson Mandela had to go through and also serves as a platform to raise consciousness of the plight of animals that are exploited and held in unsafe, inhumane conditions.
