It was at the beginning of my first year as a Design student at Goldsmiths (November 2013) and this was the first project brief we were set. I guess it was an insight into how high we should set our own standards as creative designers - to be 'The Best'. I decided to set a new record rather than try to break and existing one, and seeing as I am intrigued by how strangers interact (or lack of) especially in London, I chose to set this one. Really enjoyed doing it, I wanted to carry on after the hour was up! Was very interesting to see how people reacted to me approaching them. Many were distrusting, particularly the first few I asked when my t-shirt was still blank, which wasn't really a surprise. But once I got into it and passers-by could see others signing me lots more wanted to join in. I think it has a lot to do with social conformity, as it is easier to join in if you see others doing it already, but would seem more of a risk if you are the first. I am considering another experiment, but this time wearing an all in one white bodysuit/overall and maybe asking people to draw/doodle. What do you think? Thanks for the interest!
