At the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, 1,945 people twerked together, a RecordSetter World Record. The record was led by show hosts Lucy Hale and Darren Criss, and officiated by RecordSetter co-founders Dan Rollman and Corey Henderson.

- participants must shake their hips in an up and down bounce motion
- must listen to a hip hop beat for duration of attempt
- everyone must twerk in unison for at least five seconds

That’s absolutely stupid. Yeah let’s have all these CHILDREN twerk.

I highly doubt they were all twerking. This is simply because as a teen I'll know that a) they'll look stupid (which doesn't matter on this site thankfully) and b) because teens generally don't like obvious gimmicks like this to try to get teens interesting in the site. Its real nice you could get on the Teen Choice Awards but I think we already have enough teens on here anyway. So great job, but I don't know if this should be accepted.

    Sorry for the long comment.

Kevin, the actual audience count in was over 5000, we looked at video footage and reduced that number to something we are confident with. #twerk.

      ok thanks

      1. All audience members were taught how to twerk immediately before the attempt was made.

      2. Following multiple viewings of the attempt, we very conservatively based our count on 1/3 of audience members participating, plus the two hosts. We feel certain the actual count exceeded this, but needed to select a number we could concretely stand behind. Like all categories on our site, if competition arises, we anticipate documentation will need to increase in precision. Twerk on!

Really? From what I saw there were less twerkers than that.

Spoken from someone who was onstage witnessing the attempt, I can say with extreme confidence that more than 1/3 of the audience participated. I believe an accurate count would be closer to 2/3, but as I say, we felt a need to err on the conservative side.

You have a point. I didn't think of that.
