Loudest Whistle

United States Rob Lewis and Kris James

Like

Austin , Texas, United States / March 13, 2011

Rob Lewis and Kris James let out whistles that were at least 120 decibels. It’s possible they were louder, but the sound level meter apparently maxed out.

Lewis and James whistled during URDB’s BreakCancer party at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Dan Rollman and Corey Henderson were present as witnesses.

[#BreakCancer01][]

- must measure whistle with a sound level meter
- must attempt record in silence
- may not use any devices to amplify whistle level

The meter we used from Radioshack only went up to 120 dba. I'm quite sure they were substantially louder than that.

If you set RANGE to 120, the meter measures sound levels from 110 to 126 dB. If the meter measures more than 126 dB in Range 120, the number 126 and the bar graph flash.(http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/3302055PMEN.pdf). BUT THEY WERE VERY GOOD!! CONGRATULATIONS!!
