The record was set on August 30, 2008 at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada. Paul Mitchell and Dan Rollman of the Playa Book of Records Executive Committee were present to videotape and measure the evidence.

Pushing the physical limits of mankind, Jesse James sets a world record for the shortest thumb on a fully grown human. James’ thumb, which measures just 1 1/2 inches in length, was documented at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada on August 29, 2008. Dan Rollman and Tonya Zohba, Executive Committee Members of the Playa Book of Records, were on hand to measure and videotape the record-setting digit.
