Over two straight years of living in New York City, Cathy Erway ate out at restaurants only 12 times. Frustrated with restaurant culture and living on a limited budget, she made a pact with herself to prepare her meals at home. Adam Pollock spelled out “I (Heart) PICKLED HERRING” with pickled herring and ate it in three minutes, 33.81 seconds. Timing began when he started spelling, and stopped when he’d finished eating. Marta Pereira and Mafalda Marcos ate a combined total of 20 cat tongue cookies[] in 20 seconds. The cookies were placed in their mouths one at a time.

Nichelle Stephens and Rachel Kramer Bussel of Cupcakes Take The Cake[] and Nora Vetter of Nibbles by Nora assembled a cupcake kebab[] that measured 33.5 inches in length. Vetter, who invented the concept and baked the cupcakes they used, stipulated at least 1/3 of the kebab be made of cupcakes. BBQ legend Clint Cantwell built a s’more from scratch that was 10.2" in height. Cantwell used graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate and a combination of marshmallows and marshmallow fluff to assemble it, and a small blowtorch to heat the ingredients. He dictated it had to stand alone without any support or assistance in order for the record to count. Paying homage to people who write names on grains of rice, Marcus Livesay[] wrote 61 first names on a piece of dry spaghetti, a world record. He used .5mm pen and wrote on a piece of Barilla spaghetti. Livesay performed the feat on July 14, 2009 at a World Record Appreciation Society[] event in New York City. JP Midgley stacked 8 butter packets and 5 Splenda Packs in 39.21 seconds, a world record.

Radio host Paul Van Sickle ate a Big Momma’s Cinnamon Roll in 19 minutes, 52.32 seconds, a new world record. The roll measured 9 inches in diameter and 3 inches in height. He set the record on July 2, 2009 on the Great Getting Up In The Morning Show[] on KCWJ in Kansas City, Missouri. Royce Handy was present as a witness.

Cynthia Kueppers and Dave Bredesen built a carrot cake 18" in height, a new world record. When complete, the cake had 21 layers. The duo built the oversized dessert on May 20, 2009 at a World Record Appreciation Society[] event in New York City. When they were finished creating it, hungry audience members ate the entire thing. The Denny’s restaurant chain gave away 1.7 million free breakfasts in eight hours, a new world record. They served their Grand Slam breakfast (two eggs, two pancakes, two sausages, two strips of bacon) at no charge between the hours of 6 a.m and 2 p.m. The record was set on February 3, 2009. 1523 restaurants and over 36,000 employees across the United States were involved in making it happen.

Wyatt Accardi smushed 63 grapes with his hands in one minute, a new world record. To get an accurate count, 81 grapes were counted beforehand. When the minute was complete, 18 unsmushed grapes remained. Accardi performed the feat on April 4, 2009 at the first annual Brooklyn World Record Day in Brooklyn, New York. Ryan Shannon balances 20 marshmallow Peeps on his iPhone, a new world record. The achievement took place on April 2, 2009 at Shannon’s office in Redwood City, California. Kevin Mullarkey was present to document the record and count the Peeps.

Greg Roberts placed three Peeps on his sleeping baby in a stop-motion film, a new world record. For those interested in beating the record, Roberts insists the baby must be under the age of one and the Peeps must be uneaten. The record was set at Roberts’ San Diego home on March 13, 2009, with his baby Liam featured in the film. Jessica Roberts witnessed the feat.

Demonstrating his encyclopedic knowledge of Jewish delis, David Sax names 30 of them in just one minute, a new universal record. Sax showed tremendous focus while setting the record, ignoring an obnoxious heckler who kept yelling, “Carnegie!” He performed the feat on February 11, 2009 at a World Record Appreciation Society event held in New York City.
